The parallels between Trump and Burr go a little deeper than the essay points out. First, the obvious. Trump asserted that he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and get away with it while Burr actually shot someone and essentially got away with it.

Jefferson and Burr ran together in 1800, with the understanding that Jefferson was running for President and Burr for Vice President. Because of the structure of the electoral college, they each got 73 electoral votes. Burr challenged Jefferson asserting that the custom and understanding didn’t really apply and there was no law which controlled it.

Trump ran and governed on the premise that he was only controlled by explicit legal means. Conventional norms and customs that had grown up over time were not controlling.

Many of Trump’s voters feel that these norms and customs have been put into place by the privileged class to the detriment of the rest of us. This is what Trump fed into with superb salesmanship, a sense of resentment, and tireless campaigning

I have said the same thing that Burr is the closest to trump. We've had in our history. The parallels are unique and how each was indicted numerous times.

If trump is found guilty to have sold secrets to another country that will make him on a par with benedict arnold as well
