Great piece based in historical fact and precedent. Thanks for being a voice of reason, Dr. Brands.

The uproar over the classified documents has become a source of endless and probably needless talk and commentary that will keep many employed on cabal networks. This episode is a good example of filling time over an issue that in the end will not be very enlightening. Such is our social media and expanded news coverage that is now so much part of our time.

We also live with an avalanche of paper and electronic documents and certainly a lot of this stuff must be preserved as historians and others will need to look back at our government's operations. But what falls into a category of classification still is unclear and as Professor Brands stated from his experience, most of the record does not need such a classification. But this mountain of material now finds its way into the recent creations called presidential museums and archives that have become monuments to the vanity of these individuals. It appears they are not necessary other than to preserve those papers that can convey the government workings for which they were created. These monuments to their vanity seems a needless public expense and that for all the marble and limestone used in erecting these buildings they too will not survive time. For those who privately want to give money for these museums, well there are worse things to do with one's money.
