The south's economy was very driven by slavery and as the character who play the Confederate Vice President Alexander Hamilton Stephens in the movie Lincoln pointed out- ending slavery extinguished their economy. (Incidentally, the actor who played Stephens in the movie looked amazingly like the actual person)!

And you are also correct- I am SO tired of hearing the phrase "socialist" by Republicans. It always reminds me of Slavoj Zizek's turn of phrase "in a time of actual existing socialism." hahaha

With regards to actual civil war, I agree with you and have said the same thing- no defined geography is at play. BUT, a caveat, though we may not have actual civil war, I have no illusions we will avoid violence. The violence won't arise to guerrilla warfare as was seen in West Virginia, Missouri or Kentucky. But I fully expect more incidents of domestic terrorism such as attempts to kidnap or kill government officials (as we saw here in Michigan) or shootings and attacks elsewhere. We have already had a mass murder several years ago by McVeigh using explosives. We will see more of it especially as the current Republican Party descends into anti-democratic conspiracy mentality in which the only legitimate elections are the ones they win.

I am SO tired of hearing the phrase "racist/sexist/homophobe" ad nauseum by Democrats.

I also have no illusions that we will avoid violence. I fully expect more incidents of domestic terrorism such as attacks on pro-life supporters (as you saw in Michigan) or shootings and attacks elsewhere. We have already had an attempted murder of Republican lawmakers (Steve Scalise) and even a conservative teenager, as in North Dakota. We will see more of it, especially as the current Democrat Party descends into anti-freedom conspiracy mentality in which the only legitimate elections are the ones they win, and they continue to believe that those who disagree with them should be silenced.

See, it goes both ways.

It doesn't go both ways! by the way.

“There has been a strong presumption among many that while left-wing and right-wing ideologies vary a great deal in content, they resemble each other in terms of their willingness to use violence to further their political agenda. However, our analysis shows that right-wing actors are significantly more violent than left-wing actors,” said LaFree, a professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice (CCJS) and the founding director of the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START).

People that hide behind pseudonyms online already lose a measure of credibility

Let's not pretend that if I'd signed my name, which is Leisha, by the way, that you would have extended me any more credibility. Your mind is already made up that I'm some MAGA wearing Fox news junkie, even thought you know absolutely nothing about me, and neither could be farther from the truth. But the more you prattle, the more you prove my point, that the left is just as myopic as the right, if not more so.

The irony of calling Democrats anti-freedom is surely lost on you as Republicans work over-time to restrict voting, attack elections, regulate women's bodies etc.

Quit your attempts at Gaslighting!

It is Republicans who have effectively said elections are not legitimate unless they win.

just go away with your idiotic Fox News talking points

Stay classy, Dennis. When you have to resort to profanity and personal insults, you’ve lost the argument. Have a nice evening.

If you are offended by the 'jesus' I removed it- I don't consider it profanity but the point remains that bossypants is simply regurgitating Fox/Republican talking points with little attribution to support the arguments like the last comment. Clinton, Gore, Abrams? Yes by all means go on.

Your false equivalence is disturbing but typical of people coming from the right.

Attacks on conservatives and Anti-abortion activists are far from as common as attacks are from the right on liberals and Pro choice people.

The FBI has even documented the rise of right wing terrorism and threats of violence for the last decade and it's only gotten worse.

Maybe you won't hear the terms racist homophobic or sexist if so many on the right were actually not racist homophobic or sexist. This last election cycle was completely a total play on fear by the Republican party. Fear of change fear of people who are different. The voting public responded and repudiated all that fear because the republicans have no real policies other than that

Four replies? Sensitive much?

But thank you for illustrating my point so eloquently. Your views are very typical of the bubble in which you live and operate. The fact that you can't see that the same problems exist on the extremes of both parties is disturbing and telling.

Yes I will reply as much as needed because your toxic comments do not deserve to stand alone as if they are factual and address reality- this is the problem with the Democratic Party IMO- they have let Republicans get away with just taking the stage and do not aggressively counter ludicrous and idiotic statements- they never have- and this has allowed the right to migrate to garbage like Jewish space lasers, pizza pedophile and grooming.

You're adorable. So cute that you see yourself as the sole arbiter of facts and ludicrous statements. Thanks for the laughs.
