I think they already are, Emit. And rightly so. But there is always the chance of future discovery of something unsettling about them. We live in a moment of impatience with imperfection. This will change, but until it does, it's dicey business putting anyone up on a pedestal or street sign.

Professor, this reminds me of a talk you gave at the Barnes & Noble here in Austin when discussing your Andrew Jackson biography. You cited how Jackson was the President with the largest number of roads and avenues names after a President. In this age of awareness of statues and other memorials named after people who were overall less than savory on a moral level, do you see people like Sacajawea getting more acknowledgment for their contributions in the manner of memorials and avenues named after them?
