Great story but I think there was something Slave owners feared even more. A Haiti style slave insurrection. That's why John Brown's Raid caused such consternation. Of course, slave owners feared their slaves getting knowledge, of course. They did not want them to travel or read or inform themselves. They wanted them to work, to obey and reproduce.
