And some Shoshone family bands moved off of the eastern Wyoming slopes, down into the lower Great Plains, encountered and then encompassed the horse, incorporating the animal into their very existence,displaced the Apache from who they acquired the horse, and became Lords of the Plains. All in about a span of 100 years.

Heh. This may explain the widespread posting of the current temperature on the social media sites of Austinites....

There is an interesting question that springs from your piece: What is it that makes human migration acceptable or unacceptable according from various political perspectives?

In current American political terms, there must be considerable overlap among progressives who deplore the post-Columbian European migration to the Americas and progressives who support 21st century migrants who come here unlawfully or under sham petitions for asylum.

Similarly, there must be at least some overlap on the right between those who believe Old World migration to the Americas was at least a net positive for humanity and those who object to intra- and inter- hemispheric migration now.
