Great commentary Professor. I think one aspect of war that hasn’t gotten full state is the evolution of technology. In the older wars, the technology was in the improvements and efficiencies of guns, bombs, etc. Technology now has evolved within our current internet and its technology and these nation-states who are now engaging in attacks on internet infrastructure and security of other nations. These types of attacks can cripple or entirely shut down of basic necessities like water and electricity. My guess is that this type of warfare will only increase in the future on various levels.
You might be right, Emit. This is a continuation of a trend in asymmetric warfare, where small groups can cripple large countries. First it was terrorists, as on 9/11; now it's hackers. War is the right term for this, but it's war of a kind we've never seen before. It might well be the wave of the future.
