H.W. your writing as always insightful and a welcomed part of my day! I love the 30,000' perspective you have on history. The ONLY thing I have an issue with is your treatment of Trump as just another target of the liberal left. If you have read the New Yorker article about Trump and "His Generals" you would learn that he asked why he couldn't find more loyal generals just like Hitler had. I believe it was Mattis who explained to him that at least on three occasions those generals of his tried to assassinate him! General Paul Selva talked Trump out of a military parade saying "that's what dictators do sir" Other than your blind spot for the would be dictator your perspective is top shelf! We need to get back to a healthy debate from the left and the right, but that last guy was an anomaly that we need to purge from our collective system. I say this as a person that has voted both R and D in my life but will never vote R again until that party has divorced itself from that scourge that has warped that once wise and thoughtful party into a cult of personality. Thanks for your work and for taking the time to read my rant :) This is about all the social I get when I come to media

Another excellent essay! During the last Democratic presidential primary, I saw a pro-Biden political cartoon showing two toppled statues: one of Lenin and the other of Bernie Sanders. (This was right after Bernie dropped out of the race because the Democratic Party establishment had ganged up on him.) Did the cartoonist really think that there's no difference between totalitarian Marxism like in the former USSR and the democratic socialism practiced in Scandinavia and Western Europe?
