a remarkable woman who did much for the cause of peace and peaceful coexistence. She helped and made the lives of thousands easier. There is a great book on her I read a few years ago. When I taught AP US history, I always told the Jane Addams story and we read excerpts of her remarkable book CITIZEN JANE ADDAMS

To anyone who thinks traffic jams are a modern phenomenon, the photo accompanying this article will set him/her straight. I recall reading that the huge fireworks display in St. James Park in London in the 18th century to celebrate the end of the War of the Austrian Succession (and which inspired Handel's "Royal Fireworks Music") caused a traffic jam of thousands of horse-drawn carriages.
