I certainly hope it is more than a dream. Perhaps though, just as with a severe illness, we must be patient until the afflicted can emerge from the crisis stage of the illness. During that trying time we administer healing balms and continue to work in good faith knowing that we can bring those with the will to live and love through the darkness to dawn.

Maybe, but if so, I have the same dream. That's also the dream of the founders -- a land built by people with loyalty to the idea of freedom, regardless of when or from whence we came. My family has ties to the personal household of William Penn, and other members came to NC in the 1700s. We've been here a long time, but so what? Whether you came two weeks or two years ago. we all came for the same thing -- the freedom of self-determination. My fear is that some don't want self-determination as much as they desire someone to determine for them.

I think your point, as always, provides us with another lense with which to look at our past. If I recall correctly, most of my American history classes requires Crevecoeur as an example of just how much a melting pot we are. My great grandfather was from Hungary in 1914 but today his same town is actually in Slovakia. No matter how we look at our differences we have all been along the same road together at one point in time. Perhaps the wall of names at Ellis Island only includes the names of those who went through there but the same journey was made by those who went through other ports. We need to remember there are many ships on the same oceans of our world. Well said Dr. Brands
