A growing number of Americans are Independent. Many Americans are swing voters and have voted for Democrats, Republicans, and third parties. I will admit when I voted for a third party it was mostly as a protest vote because I could not bring myself to vote for a certain candidate. But for major offices and local offices I have voted across party lines. I am registered as an Independent. The only reason I would change would be to vote in a presidential party primary. But otherwise, it makes no difference as here (In California) we have open primaries. I felt if I contributed to a landslide that would give him or her a mandate. Voting must be accessible to all, but it also must be honest. I am not sure universal absentee ballots are secure. Early voting seems reasonable but however we vote the votes should be verifiable, secure, and honest.
